Super Saiyan 1

Super Saiyan 1 is the first transformation every player, regardless of genetics, must obtain. Uniquely, it is the only form with 3 versions, two of which are obtained via Mastery and the last being a combination of Super Saiyan 1 with Kaioken.

Super Saiyan 1 (SSJ1) is the base version of the transformation. In order to unlock it, the player must first defeat Skeletron, then repeatedly die to bosses, which has a 5% chance of instantly reviving them as a Super Saiyan 1. Unlocking the transformation is guaranteed on the fourth death.

Alternatively, the Dragon Balls' Awakening wish will unlock Super Saiyan 1 if the current world is in Hardmode.

Visually, SSJ1's hair is yellow and raised, and the player will emit light.

Super Kaioken

Super Kaioken is a combined state of SSJ1 and Kaioken. It is activated by pressing Kaioken while in SSJ1. In terms of damage, it is the strongest form between all levels of Kaioken and versions of Super Saiyan 1, but it drains both Ki and Health to sustain.

Ascended Super Saiyan (ASSJ) is a slightly more powerful version of Super Saiyan 1. It is unlocked upon achieving 50% Mastery of SSJ1, and can be activated by pressing Transform while holding Energy Charge in SSJ1.

Visually, ASSJ's hair is slightly more raised than SSJ1's, and the aura is slightly larger.

Ultra Super Saiyan (USSJ) is the highest evolution of Super Saiyan 1. It is unlocked upon achieving 75% Mastery of SSJ1, and can be activated by pressing Transform while holding Energy Charge in ASSJ.

Visually, USSJ's hair becomes even more raised than ASSJ's.

Notes

• The Ascended and Ultra forms contribute to and are affected by Super Saiyan 1 Mastery.
  • Super Kaioken does not contribute to Mastery, but its Ki drain is reduced when SSJ1 is mastered.

Trivia

• Super Saiyan 1 is the only form that is not guaranteed to be unlocked on the first death.
• Ultra Super Saiyan is the only form that decreases speed.
• The Super Saiyan 1 transformation is the most well-known form in all of Dragon Ball.
• Ascended Super Saiyan and Ultra Super Saiyan are also known as Super Saiyan Grade 2 and 3 respectively.
